Happy Mother’s Day!
simple. pure. love.’s Bath Therapy
Relieve stress and inflammation with simple. pure. love.‘s therapeutic recipe of Epsom salt, sea salt and an essential oil blend of lavender, bergamot and lemongrass.
- 6 cups Epsom Salt
- 3 lbs Fine Celtic Sea Salt
- 1 lb Coarse Celtic Sea Salt (adjust for your abrasive preference if using as a scrub)
- 1 lb Baking Soda
- 2 Tbsp Organic Virgin Coconut Oil
- 2 Tbsp Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 2 Tbsp Vitamin E Oil
- 80 drops Organic Lavender Essential Oil*
- 70 drops Organic Bergamot Essential Oil*
- 50 drops Organic Lemongrass Essential Oil*
Mix all ingredients well (I wear food-grade gloves and massage the oils into the dry mixture). Cover a baking sheet with two sheets of foil (double lined). Evenly spread mixture onto covered baking sheet and bake at 175° for 20 minutes, stirring at 10 minutes and 15 minutes. Cool for a few hours before jarring. (This last step is not necessary, but it keeps the salt mixture from hardening while stored.)
*Swap for the essential oils that make you feel fabulous.

How to Use
Bath salts can be used as a soak by dissolving a cup (or two, or three) into a warm bath. Soak deeply for at least 20 minutes. Be careful to leave your bath slowly and carefully after you’ve thoroughly soaked, as Epsom salt has a way of knocking you out. Best to do this at night, before bed (and after everyone else is tucked away for the evening).
In the shower, scoop out into your hands as a scrub to exfoliate and cleanse your whole body. This can be done daily or at your leisure. Be sure to take time to give your feet or any dry patches an extra good scrub.
As a foot soak and scrub, fill a bin or bathtub with enough water to immerse your feet up to your ankles. Scrub your whole foot and ankle (calf too if you’d like) with Bath Salts to exfoliate and relieve tension. Dissolve a cup of Bath Salts into the tub and immerse your feel for at least twenty minutes. Even just soaking your feet can leave your body incredibly calm as it removes toxins. Take care to move about cautiously after your soak.
Short on time, take just a few minutes before bed and scrub your feet in the tub under warm water. Massage deeply and afterward rest easily.

How it Works
Allow the Epsom salt, a pure mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate, to do its magic as it reduces inflammation, flushes out toxins and eases stress. All Epsom salt contains the naturally occurring minerals magnesium and sulfate, which can be absorbed through the skin.
Sea Salt has the healing power to reduce skin inflammation and irritation, reduce stress and remove toxins from the body. Unprocessed sea salt is a natural purifier that helps promote healing within the skin, better circulation, and reduced inflammation. Coarse sea salts are excellent exfoliators, however people with especially sensitive skin should be careful. Our bath salts combine coarse and fine salts.
Baking soda balances pH, cleanses and soothes the skin. It is also a mild exfoliate that helps to remove dead skin cells.
Unrefined, whole kernel extra virgin coconut oil is naturally antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral. Coconut oil is made up of fatty acids, including lauric acid, and is incredibly nourishing and hydrating for the skin, protecting it from free radical damage. Traditionally, coconut oil has been praised and well known for its anti-aging properties.
Olive oil is high in fatty acids and a great skin moisturizer.
Vitamin E oil is used as a preservative and anti-oxidant skin nourishment in body care products. Vitamin E can block free radicals, having an anti-aging effect on the skin. It also helps the skin retain water and stay hydrated. It speeds up regeneration of skin cells to heal skin faster.
Lavender, Lavandula angustifolia is one of the most versatile essential oils and probably one of the most popular. It blends well with many other oils and has a multitude of health benefits, physically and emotionally.
Lavender is one of the few oils that can be applied neat, without carrier oils. This is of course with discretion. I would advise against it if you have sensitive skin. Lavender is very relaxing and is used in aromatherapy to treat stress, anxiety, and insomnia. It’s applied to soothe bruises, ease headaches, treat skin infections, insect bites, rashes and inflammation. It is antibacterial, antimicrobial and antiseptic. It is used in body care products, massage oils, aromatherapy and cleaning products. On its own or blended with other essential oils, it can be very effective.
In Bath Salts, lavender aids as a therapeutic agent by inducing relaxation. It also soothes skin irritations.
Bergamot, Citrus bergamia is antibacterial, antiseptic and astringent. It is used to soothe irritations of the skin, including acne, psoriasis and insect bites. In aromatherapy it is used to relived tension due to stress and anxiety. It should be diluted with a carrier oil before applying it to the skin.
In Bath Salts, bergamot aids to soothe dry or irritated skin while therapeutically alleviating tension in the body.
Lemongrass, Cymbopogon flexuosius is used to soothe insect bites, acne and injuries to the muscles and ligaments. It also improves circulation. It is antifungal, antimicrobial and used as an analgesic. It can also be used to repel insects and as an insecticide. In aromatherapy, lemongrass is used to clear the mind and improve mental and physical exhaustion.
In Bath Salts, lemongrass aids as an anti-inflammatory and mental clarifying agent.
If you have highly sensitive skin or if you are pregnant, please avoid lemongrass neatly.
