More about the Community Culinary School
I found the Community Culinary School by chance, thanks to my sister-in-law. Speaking with Executive Director, Dawn Hammocott, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, I learned that after selling her bakery in downtown New Milford she started the school with a passion to help others. It began as a hopeful idea and became a huge success.
The Community Culinary School offers culinary training and job placement to unemployed and underemployed adults age 18 and over who are interested in starting a new career in the food service industry.
Students enroll in a 12-week class where they learn culinary and life skills, cooking techniques, food safety, nutrition, professional work habits and skills necessary for finding and retaining a job. The school boasts a 96% job placement rate and a 95% job retention rate. This sleeper organization blew me away as I learned how successful it has become.
A job training program such as the Community Culinary School… offers a real opportunity for motivated out-of-school youth and adults to attain self-sufficiency… 80% of students qualify for sponsorships, paid by the School.
